Frost in May?

Another beautiful day in the vineyard with the vines coming on in leaps and bounds. Hard to believe that the weather forecast is for plummeting temperatures with the dreaded risk of frost on Monday night. Which is why the alleyways are being mown. It helps to reduce the impact. The F word is the bane of cool climate grape growing. In 2017 frost at the end of April reeked havoc not just in the UK but throughout Europe right down to northern Spain. It was the year after we planted so too soon for a harvest, but it was still heart-breaking to see the shrivelled leaves.  The Heppington site was chosen partly because of the historically low incidence of late frost. And the current forecast indicates that we'll miss it next week. But anxious times...
